What Causes Acne?

So, the following information is a bit bland and scientific I know. Sometimes, it is just best to get the facts out there for you to read. If I bore you with this article, I apologize, but the information is, I think, important none the less.

Acne, medically known as Acne Vulgaris, is a skin disease that involves the sebaceous glands at the base of hair follicles.

It is the most common skin disorder and is characterized by inflammation and skin eruptions due to strong outflows of the
semi-fluid sebum, which is secreted by the sebaceous glands.

Increased flow of sebum clogs the pores on the skin causing swelling, and can even injure the sebum canals. Many people across the world suffer acne at some point in their life with some suffering constant outbreaks of the condition throughout their lives.

There are several factors responsible for causing acne. They act together to cause the characteristic pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads associated with acne.

Causes of acne:

Hormones:
Acne has been linked with production of hormones, in particular the androgens. These hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce sebum.  Androgens are produced by the testes in men and by the ovaries in women. In both sexes, the hormones are also produced by the adrenal glands. During puberty, production of the hormones tends to increase in both boys and girls causing the sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum.

Likewise, during times of stress, the adrenal glands produce increased levels of androgens, causing even greater enlargement of the oil glands. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy and the use of oral contraceptives can also affect sebum production.

Increased production of insulin and insulin like growth factor 1 (iGF-1) has also been associated with acne development.

Activity of normal skin bacteria:
Although acne is not caused by a bacterial infection, bacteria do play a role in making the condition worse. The bacterium Propionibacterium Acnes (P. acnes), is a normal part of the skin surface. It prevents the skin from being invaded by harmful bacteria. When oil is trapped in the hair follicles, the normal skin bacteria P. Acnes, will grow in the blocked pore. The bacteria produce chemicals that alter the composition of the oil, which makes it more irritating to the skin and causes inflammation.

Blockage of the skin pores:
Oily skin occurs when an overactive sebaceous gland enlarges and overproduces oil. acne develops when some of the skin pores (through which oil normally flows from the sebaceous glands to reach the skin surface) become blocked, resulting in trapping of oil within the skin pores. The pores are blocked by skin cells that have been shed from the lining of the skin pore and have bunched together. While the cause for this clogging remains unknown, it is not a result of poor hygiene. A blackhead or whitehead will develop from this skin pore blockage.

Inflammation:
Though many people think of acne as a bacterial disease, it’s primarily an inflammatory problem. According to many researchers, inflammation in the skin is actually the trigger that kicks off the whole process. Studies have shown that inflammation is present in the very earliest stages of a pimple, even before bacterial infection of the skin pore.

Inflammation of the skin occurs because the body’s immune system is acting to rid itself of a foreign substance. In the case of acne, this substance is either bacteria or the irritating compounds they have produced. Inflamed skin is characterized by redness, swelling, warmth and discomfort.

Medications:
Certain medications, particularly drugs containing corticosteroids, androgens and lithium, have also been associated with acne development.

Hopefully I have left you a bit more informed about what causes acne. How to Get Rid of Pimples Using Chemical Peels

Acne occurs when the hair follicle becomes blocked by a buildup of dead skin cells and excess oil. Acne is most common for the face but other areas that may also be affected include the neck, chest, shoulders and back. These are the body parts that have the greatest number of sebaceous glands.

Using a chemical peel can actually be a transforming event for the skin. It is entirely possible to get rid of pimples.

Many people do not realize that peeling is not just for the face. The same products and techniques are also effective in most types of skin damage such as discoloration, scars and stretch marks. If you are serious about removing skin damage, you should definitely consider a chemical peel.

In the past, only professionals did chemical peels to their clients, but that is not the case now. Products of professional strength are available for purchase online. If you want to do your peels at home, you need to know what you are doing.

Not all peels are created equal, and you have plenty of options if you decide you want a peel. Several different chemical peels ingredients are commonly used in skin care. The peels are generally categorized by the strength they have. Strength is determined by the amount of tissue they are able to remove.

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

A chemical peel uses controlled methods to remove damaged and irregular tissue. It really does not remove the skin when applied.

The solution wounds the skin and creates necrosis in the epidermis and dermis. This may seem daunting, but this actually improves the skin.

The damaged tissue dies and is replaced by a better-looking skin. The old skin remains intact until the healing process is complete. A layer of dead skin cells which can be brown, reddish, plastic like or rigid covers the treated area. It remains stable for several days to a week or more, depending on the strength of the peel. When the skin heals, these protective peels reveal new skin underneath.

Different ways to incorporate chemical peels into a routine:

Steady and Slow:

With superficial peels one can produce progressive results in very little time. Although most of the skin damages happen at the dermis, which remains intact, these peels promote cell renewal, collagen production, and stimulate the skin’s response to natural healing.

Strong Peels:

You can achieve spectacular results through medium peeling in a short time, but there is a higher risk of complications and a longer recovery period. Despite the risks, the results of peeling can be dramatic, especially for damages such as wrinkles and acne scars.

Series of Peels:

The best solution is to split the difference and make a number of moderate peels. Many kits provide strong superficial or almost moderate peels. The results are less intense, so is the risk. You cannot wear makeup while peeling. It is often possible to use these peels after every 2 to 3 weeks. The skin recovers within a week after each peeling. Spot Treatments:

You can also use stronger solutions as a spot treatment on individual pimples. This allows you to minimize risk and recovery time. Instead of a large area, such as the entire surface, just peel the area of skin that has a problem. The rest of the skin and its barrier will remain intact. If you really want a medium peel at home, this is probably the best way to get good results without exposing the remaining part of the skin, which is in a relatively good condition.

Remember, gradually increasing the strength of the peel is critical. Use peels with low strength in the initial treatment.

Human skin is very variable and there is no way of knowing how you will react. Always start slow, I cannot stress this enough!

How do Salicyclic acid chemical peels work?

Salicylic acid works by stripping the skin of excessive sebum (oily secretion by glands in skin) and has a potential anti- bacterial action. It helps to remove unwanted fat cells, dead cells and debris. It is directly applied on skin and usually in high concentration for better action.

How to use Salicylic acid chemical peels at home:

Follow these simple steps and get that flawless skin instantly before you know it:

  • Get your skin examined to determine the extent of peel required. This helps you to choose the right concentration of salicylic acid.
  • Remember to cleanse your skin before applying salicylic acid and also avoid exfoliation 2-3 days prior to the use of acid peel.
  • Concentrations up to 30% are now available in markets and it is important to determine the extent of damage. In case you face constant acne outbreaks, you should consider using higher concentrations of acid peel.
  • Apply a thin layer of the acid on cleansed skin and leave it on for 10-20 minutes depending on the amount of acne. Time your application to prevent acid peel burns. Mild discomfort or tingling sensation of the skin is common but persistent burning or rashes need immediate medical attention.

It takes around 5-10 treatments to see visible improvement of the skin. It is proportional to the severity of your condition.

It is important for people with sensitive skin to use a standard sunscreen lotion with high SPF to alleviate sensitivity. All these side effects can be reversible and you can prevent them by getting your skin tested for allergies. It is essential to consult a dermatologist and begin this treatment to prevent adverse skin reactions. It is also not recommended for use in pregnant women.

Selecting The Best Products For Chemical Acid Peels

Selecting skin care products without the right information can be an intimidating affair. This is especially so when you have to pick a product for less frequent procedures such as chemical acid peels. Identifying the best product among the hundreds available in the market can be quite difficult. You need to know where to look and what to look out for so as to increase your chances of finding the best available products. While you could rely on an expert to recommend something that is suitable for you, having a good basic understanding of all the options that are available to you is a must.

As with anything, knowledge is the key to making the right choice. With sufficient information, you will comfortably pick one from the many products available. You must therefore begin by conducting adequate research on the chemical acid peels in the market and their suitability to your needs. Your research will help you make a good decision on where to buy and what exactly you need to buy. These details and information you collect in your research will help compare the different products that you can safely use for acid peels.

1. Identify a reputable source:
Reputable sources build their reputations by supplying quality skin care products over and over. If a supplier has a poor reputation, it is very likely they have poor quality products to offer. The best sources will stock the best products so as to maintain their reputation as the best supplier in the industry. They will ensure that each item bought by their customers is of the right quality and quantity. Buying your acid peel products from the right supplier ensures you enjoy better results while eliminating the need for repeat treatments.

2. Go for respected brands:
When some people hear of respected brands, they tend to think that this means they have to buy the most expensive brands. However, this is not necessarily true. Respected brands are simply products that have proven their worth in the market. The pricing and popularity is not what is in question here. The main issues of concern are whether the product works for you and whether its effectiveness has been proven. Always ensure that you only use respected brands for chemical acid peels.  There is no need for any unnecessary painful experiences.

3. Seek assistance if you are unsure:

Working with a reputable source that employs professionals has the additional advantage of expert advice. Whenever you are unsure about certain issues that relate to the acid peels you are considering, it is always advisable to get assistance. Professional help will make it easy to select the right products. It will also help you decide whether you should do the acid peel yourself or have it done at a facility. You should never attempt to apply any of the more invasive, deep treatments yourself. You must see a dermatologist for this procedure. There can be everlasting effects to your skin if you do not.

Having covered these very important areas, you will have made an important step towards ensuring that your peels are successful and safe. Having chosen a good product to use, the next step will be to decide on where the procedure is done and who does it. Doing it yourself is cheaper but there are many who argue that it is better when a professional does it. However, regardless on who does the acid peels for you, using the best products is critical to achieving the desired results.

Acid Peels – Enhance Your Skin Tone

Acid peels really help to rejuvenate the skin. Applying an acid peel is truly a simple and effective way to enhance skin texture, remove scars, wrinkles, and reduce the appearance of various other skin imperfections. This makes you look more youthful and fresher than before. These kinds of chemical peels are non-surgical remedies for your face that’ll not simply refine the skin texture, but will even boost the glow of your skin. There are many types of acid peels available including glycolic acid peels, citric acid peels, malic acid peels and tartaric acid peels. Using a home glycolic peel is a safe to use at home product and it comes with low concentration.

Acid peels are of milder nature. The application is normally simple enough, not requiring a ton of technical knowledge. Acid peels normally heal quicker and require significantly less time to complete. It’s important to have the fundamental information as to how the acid peels work, what you need to deal with just before, during and after the treatment.

What exactly does an acid peel do?

Acid peels eliminate the dead skin cells in the upper layer of skin resulting in lessening of age lines, pimples, and wrinkle reduction.

If you do decide to see a doctor for this procedure, your skin doctor will often cleanse your skin before starting the treatment. Then he/she applies a liquid solution of glycolic acid along with a neutralizing lotion. After the treatment, you may experience a sense of stretched and oily skin. You can usually expect the time period for this treatment to take about 30-45 minutes. The skin will appear slightly greasy due to the effect of neutralizer solution with scent of cucumber making it looks greasy.

Your skin type determines the results of the treatment procedure. Here in this treatment, a stronger solution must be applied each and every time. You could feel soreness in the region treated. Momentary itchiness may develop after a couple of hours. Skin may appear chapped but it’s quite normal. Try to avoid washing the face for a while once the treatment is over. You should avoid hair removal at least for a couple days. Be sure that your skin is adequately moisturized. Also, make sure that you liberally put on sun screen lotion just before going outdoors. Make sure to rest by taking a few days off from work. Absolutely no exercising for about 2 to 3 days following the treatment as your skin may not be able to take excessive pressure. You need to talk with your dermatologist regarding safety precautions and possible unwanted effects.

After the treatment is carried out, your skin could have a proper and healthy blush. Also, cell multiplication is improved, resulting in the development of fresh and new skin. Face lines are reduced immediately after treatment. Acne breakouts and damage spots are also vanished after the use of the acid peels. You’ll find less skin discoloration problems. Dark spots will become less visible and your skin will appear more stunning than ever before.

With these simple and easy steps, there is no doubt that acid peels are the best beauty choices for everyone.

Chemical Acid Peel: A Safe and Affordable Skin Treatment

Although it has an unpleasant and intimidating sounding name, a glycolic acid peel is a really great option to get smoother and better looking skin. It can effectively remove freckles, embarrassing acne scars and other types of blemishes quickly and affordably. Mild acid peels can be done in a short period of time.

Because of fairly new technology, the acid peel has become very popular and incredibly quick and available for you to do in your own home. These are so quick and straightforward that they are sometimes called lunchtime peels. Perfect for those who are busy and on a limited budget, these peels can be done at home without digging to deep into your purse, where a deep peel at the doctor and repeated visits can be time consuming and expensive.

The way the glycolic acid peel works is quite simple. The mild acid burns away a layer of skin, taking the damage with it and leaving the new, damage-free layer in it’s place. Acid peels also have the ability to stimulate new skin cell growth by deeply penetrating the skin. The peels also makes your skin produce collagen, which is vital for healthy vibrant looking skin. An all-star cast of the cosmetic industry’s top peeling agents team up with the power of nature to create the ultimate exfoliation experience.

While these peels can be used anywhere, most people use them on their face because this is the skin that is most visible to the world. Surprisingly, this skin therapy is very gentle, even for those with sensitive skin. The side effects are usually mild and the skin usually recovers completely within two days. If you are not happy with the initial outcome, then the process can be repeated once a week for the next couple of weeks.

Acid peels are very popular because of their price and how easy they are to administer. They come in a number of different concentrations, from 10% to 70%. It is recommended that if you have never done a peel before you should stick with the lower percentages to see how your skin will react. Also, be sure to follow the directions exactly and be sure to not leave the peel on your skin for more than 10 minutes at a time. Even though these chemical peels are mild, they are still an acid and must be treated with caution. It may seem obvious, but take extreme caution not to get any of the solution in your eyes. It is always wise to seek the advice of your dermatologist to see if he or she thinks you can safely use a chemical peel. The doctor may also recommend that you use the peel for less than 10 minutes to see what happens. Always remember to stay out of the sun for at least two days after a peel and be sure to cover up if you must go outdoors.

Glycolic acid peels are made with natural ingredients. The acid occurs naturally in sugar cane, citrus fruit, pineapples, and more and is also one of the main active ingredients in many of the popular skin and beauty products on the market today. If you are serious about getting rid of acne scars, minor wrinkles and other blemishes, but do not have the money to afford trip after trip to the dermatologist, then an acid peel could be exactly what you’re looking for.
